Celebrating the Women's World Cup 2023
The FIFA Women's World Cup stands as the pinnacle of international women's football and a premier global sporting event held every four years since 1991. For the first time, Australia and New Zealand will co-host the 2023 World Cup, featuring 32 contestants, including an additional eight participating nations. Excited fans from across the globe can attend games at ten selected stadiums across Australia and New Zealand.
The Australian and New Zealand teams have gone head-to-head 53 times to date, with Australia claiming 35 wins, New Zealand with 10, and 8 draws. Ahead of the tournament, Optus Sport gives Australia a 5.9% chance and New Zealand a 0.7% chance of winning the Cup.
Commencing on July 20 and running for a month until August 20, popular favourites in the lead-up to the tournament have included the United States, England, Spain, Germany, and France.
Qualification takes place through regional tournaments in FIFA's six continental zones, determining the allocated slots for each zone. In the group stage, 8 groups are formed, with one seeded team based on FIFA rankings and three other teams selected at random from top qualifiers and host teams.
